I am seeking representation for Human+, a 73,000-word speculative techno-thriller that delves into the collision of cutting-edge biotechnology, human consciousness, and the power struggles that define humanity’s future, weaving a gripping tale of personal transformation and high-stakes intrigue.

When sensitive artist David encounters The Company, a shadowy organization offering to transmute his terrifying visions into psychic self-mastery, he is thrust into a high-stakes struggle for the fate of humanity itself. Combining taut page-turning drama with a deep dive into impactful questions of human-directed evolution and transcendence, Human+ spans the personal and the political, mind and matter.

Dubbed “Psi-Fi” by astral travel guru Robert Bruce, the novel also draws on real-world US psychic spy research and my own experiences of what psychologists term “non-ordinary states of consciousness”. The story’s prescient depiction of brain-computer interfacing and a charismatic billionaire backer also eerily anticipated Elon Musk and his Neuralink project, along with burgeoning debates around transhumanism.

Originally self-published in 2012, Human+ earned glowing reviews from readers and critics alike. On Amazon (US, UK), Goodreads, and LibraryThing, it has amassed numerous 4-star and 5-star ratings. Renowned futurist Giulio Prisco praised the novel on KurzweilAI.net, describing it as “reality-warping and edge-of-your-seat action… reminiscent of Wild Palms, Vanilla Sky, and The Bourne Identity. I highly recommend it … and I look forward to seeing Human+ the movie.” (Human+ is a novelisation of my own screenplay, making it a highly visual and dynamic read.)

I believe Human+ is comparable to the novels of Philip K. Dick and the TV series Black Mirror, principally in its themes of identity, reality, and the intersection of technology and humanity. The central dynamic of the story features a Faustian relationship, reminiscent of the provocative cinematic interplay between Al Pacino and Keanu Reeves in The Devil’s Advocate. In its attempt to deal with fantastical elements of reality, that I believe actually located close to the truth, I have often described the novel as “Harry Potter for adults.”

I am eager now to collaborate with a publisher to relaunch the novel, introducing it to a wider audience now primed for its timely themes. Ready to commit fully to my writing career, I am also currently developing Decent People, a thematic companion novel exploring AI, blockchain technologies, and their transformative potential for society.

Bio

I hail from England and have a background in PR and journalism. In recent years, I have specialised in the crypto/blockchain/web3 sphere, which forms part of the setting for my proposed follow-up novel Decent People. I am currently Content Lead with the PR company VComms, and in recent years I also served as Media Director for a blockchain startup.

Following the initial release of Human+, I was for some years also a podcaster on themes of consciousness and technology, interviewing writers, thinkers and experiencers on these subjects. I am myself an experiencer of some of the profound “non-ordinary” states of consciousness touched upon in Human+. If published, I would be willing to help in its promotion by pitching to, and speaking with, podcasts and other media about the novel, its themes, and my own experiences.

Synopsis

Human+ explores big issues around consciousness, technology and human potential. The story follows David, a struggling artist haunted by addiction, vivid dreams and waking visions that blur the line between reality and nightmare. Wandering disturbed on the streets of NYC, he enters the orbit of a mysterious secret society known only as The Company, who recognise his psychological turmoil as unshaped psychic potential, of which they are masters.

After special training, he finds himself largely cleansed and focused, and awarded a vitally important role in the operation as a hotshot futurist, leveraging his capacity for prophetic visions to help develop a transhumanist nano-biotechnology that will provide the group with the wealth and influence they believe they need to execute their plans.

This heady personal transformation places David at the fulcrum of a power struggle within the group, one that could also shape humanity’s next vital steps. He finds himself center-stage in a conflict between two factions: those pushing for transhumanist enhancements for the group’s own designs on power, and those advocating for a selfless sparking in the masses of the kind of psycho-spiritual awakening that the group already personally possesses.

As David navigates this landscape, he tussles with a diverse cast of characters, each with their own take on these weighty concerns, further triggering and challenging his own perspectives, his human desires, and weaknesses. Principally, these characters include the kind, brotherly Lawrence, the Mephistophelean psychiatrist Philip, and the mysterious femme fatale Astrid.

Human+ is a thought-provoking thriller that challenges readers to consider what it means to be human in an age where technology and human potential collide.
